Transformative Parrot Conservation - Rev. Dr. LoraKim Joyner
Rev. Dr. LoraKim Joyner presents a motivating and inspirational keynote address to the Association of Avian Veterinarians Annual Conference, June 2024. The keynote address was sponsored by the Harrison Avian Research & Conservation Collaborative: HARCC, and by the Avian and Wildlife Laboratory, University of Miami. Through stories gathered from working with the people and parrots of the Americas as a conservationist and wildilfe veterinarian for over 37 years, LoraKim helps us understand the concepts of "No One is Free Until All are Free," and "Unconditional Solidarity," and the need to Stop the Parrot Trade, Stop the Demand for Parrots, and to have No More Birds in Cages....

In the meantime, they await their turn to be fed and amuse themselves by tickling th...
Thousands of parrots flying in Suriname

Sometimes counting wild parrots can be joyful and overwhelming, such as this roost site in Suriname on the Guyana border where thousands of orange-winged amazons come to roost every night. Unfortuantely many species of parrots no longer exist in abundance such as does this species which can congregate in large numbers on river islands.

Hello. I'm from San Pedro Sula, Honduras; right at the other side of the country from where you were. I'm so warmed, touched and grateful for the work you guys do. These macaws are our national birds just like the bald eagles are to you. I just wished more people in this godforsaken country could think like you and care about our wildlife as much as a few of us still do. +LoraKim Joyner Before viewing this vid, I had already been made aware of your actions through my membership in CO-ESP, a co-op devoted to creating a "Sanctuary for Quebec [Canada] Parrots". Though my You Tube channel dates back to 2007, I am not a fervent user of "social media" in general. For that reason I have not fostered any "circles of friends" and the like... I have added this vid to my channel home page as the standard view for "returning subscribers"; I have added your channel to my "featured channels" appearing on the right-hand side of the home page; hereafter, a box featuring this vid will appear at the end of all my uploads during the last 10 seconds or so. Short of writing to hundreds of my subscribers individually (as I am not able to find a way to write to them all at the same time...), that's the best I can do for now!

p.s. Appiah's 2nd sign-a lack of moral counterargument-reminded me of the NYT Ethicist's "Tell Us Why It's Ethical To Eat Meat" contest, held earlier this year (2012). They got many submissions & comments. I read many of them-even the "best," according to the judges. None presented a really convincing moral defense of meat now, in our society. I know your video is about factory farming, not eating animals in general, but I wanted to add this because it's so relevant to Appiah's 2nd criterion.

Thank you for the introduction to Kwame Anthony Appiah. I had not encountered his name or work before now! I just found a 2010 piece of his, in The Washington Post (but RUclips won't let me post the URL, I think) entitled, "What Will Future Generations Condemn Us For?" You also gave us an introduction of sorts to Athena Amber Ale. Seeing her in your arms (and hearing her soft sounds!) made me wish I knew more about her. Finally, I was impressed that you got video of that truck. Haunting.
